RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) ? Security officials in Brazil say they've given a "positive" evaluation to how security was handled when Pope Francis' motorcade was swarmed by faithful.
That comes from an emailed statement Tuesday from the federal police, who are in charge of security during most of the pope's seven-day trip in Brazil, his first international journey as pontiff.
Francis' motorcade made a wrong turn onto a blocked section of a main boulevard in Rio de Janeiro after his arrival Monday. For 15 minutes, the motorcade was repeatedly halted as faithful swarmed the cars, reaching for Francis.
The statement says federal police, highway police and the mayor's office all met to review the actions of security officers. It says that "the evaluation was positive, since there was no incident involving the pope or with any of the faithful."
The note says the fact that Francis kept his window rolled down showed that he wanted contact with the faithful.
